This Proof Point is for businesses that fund external projects that sequester greenhouse gas emissions to compensate for its own emissions.
The criteria for this Proof Point is for 20% of a business's total carbon footprint to be offset.
Please ensure your evidence includes these pieces of information:
- Your total carbon footprint for scopes 1, 2 & 3
- Footprint timeframe and calculation methodology
- Proof of purchase of offsets (including total amount of carbon offset)
What to submit as evidence
As evidence for this Proof Point, please submit evidence of your carbon footprint calculation along with the total emissions. Please also provide proof of purchase of offsets - either as an invoice, a screenshot or other valid proof. Usually, your offset partner should be able to provide this to you.
Alternatively, you could ask your carbon offsetting partner to verify the Proof Point. For verification, when creating this Proof Point please provide contact information, including company name, email address and contact name, for your carbon offsetting partner and we will reach out to verify this claim.
Offsets must come from a reputable source (eg: Gold Standard or VCS) and must have been made within the last 12 months.
Only claims with offsets that remove no less carbon than the total of both scope 1 & 2 emissions or 20% of the total footprint (whichever is greater) will be approved.
