Do you have a biodegradable packaging Proof Point?

We do not offer biodegradable as a claim for packaging components. This is because there is no commonly agreed standard behind the term. It is also considered by many claim regulation organisations as a potentially misleading claim that can mislead a shopper over the environmental performance of a product.

We support a Compostable Packaging Proof Point for products with packaging that have been tested and meets the criteria outlined in EN 13432. Compostable plastics are excluded from this Proof Point due to the lack of proven environmental benefits. This is primarily because most compostable plastics require industrial composting, which involves energy-intensive breakdown processes. Additionally, recent research has shown that the resulting biomass from the composting process can be toxic to soil health.
