Our latest Proof Point: LGBTQIA+ Led Business

We’re excited to announce our new Proof Point that’s designed to help shoppers identify and support brands that are led by LGBTQIA+ people.

Our LGBTQIA+-Led Business Proof Point applies to companies that are either majority-owned by or have a majority of people in senior leadership positions who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or questioning, intersex, asexual or any other minority gender identity or sexual orientation (LGBTQIA+).

The significant barriers LGBTQIA+ people continue to face in public life, including in work are well documented. For example, in 2021, just 25 out of 5,670 board seats at Fortune 500 companies (0.4%) were occupied by openly LGBTQ+ people and, at the time of writing, only four Fortune 500 CEOs are openly LGBTQ+. Meanwhile in the UK, Stonewall’s 2018 ‘LGBT in Britain - Work Report’ found more than a third of the LGBT workers surveyed had hidden that they are LGBT at work for fear of discrimination.

In light of this, we wanted to create a Proof Point in our framework that champions LGBTQIA+ brands as we understand visibility matters when it comes to overcoming discrimination.

Other Framework updates:

    • We’ve combined our ‘Owned’ and ‘Founded’ Business Proof Points to create a more impactful Female/Black/Person of Colour ‘Led’ Business Proof Points which place more emphasis on active owners and founders - Learn more
    • To accommodate these changes, our Owned Business Proof Points have been renamed to ‘Led Business’ and our ‘Founded’ Business Proof Points are being phased out
